The Rising Value of Social Capital for Active Adults

The Rising Value of Social Capital

Social capital is a fashionable new term and especially for active adults in the 55+ community. When most of us hear the term “capital” we think of financial resources required for a business to generate income and revenue, but “capital” in a much broader sense, refers to anything that helps increases value and the ability to function. Capital isn’t just financial; it can be physical, intellectual and social.  Maintaining relationships and spending time with others is not only fun but essential to maintaining a healthy emotional and mental well-being.

The dictionary defines social capital as “the networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively.” Those relationships are critical to several aspects of our lives. For example, they can affect our physical, mental, emotional and financial well-being. Social capital offers many benefits to the aging population, too. A network of friends and neighbors that can rely on each other for assistance offers a sense of security, builds trust, and fosters health and wellness.

All Treplus Communities are specifically designed with those amenities as benefits in mind and more! A robust monthly community calendar is developed by a resident activities committee supported by the Community Director and Lifestyle Coordinator.  Throughout the year, special events are planned to include guests and are hosted by Treplus Communities. The Commons is the heart of each Treplus Community and offers a resort-style clubhouse with a gourmet kitchen, Wi-Fi café, lounge area, billiards room, fitness center and business center. Residents can also engage with each other on the outdoor patio, which includes a fire pit and barbecue area. Walking paths and a community garden also offer residents additional outdoor opportunities to connect and focus on a healthy lifestyle.

An onsite Community Director and a Lifestyle Coordinator are dedicated to helping our residents get involved and create events that suit their own interests. Residents at Treplus Communities can get involved in yoga classes, card parties, bicycle touring clubs, book groups, tailgate parties, happy hours, and travel sharing groups, just to name a few activities happening in and around the Commons. Treplus Communities offers residents plenty of opportunities to have fun and build social capital while aging in place.
